Committed to the Prevention and Elimination of all Forms of Human Trafficking

Mission

The Hamilton Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition’s (HAHTC) mission is to develop partnerships and protocols to identify and assist people who have been human trafficked in the Hamilton region and to link people who have been trafficked to appropriate services and supports. The Coalition works to increase knowledge and awareness of human trafficking, advocates for effective, rights-based responses, and conducts research to identify the scope of human trafficking in the Hamilton area.

Our Work

The Coalition is comprised of:

  1. Community members and organizations concerned about human trafficking

  2. Steering Committee members who direct the priorities and work of the larger Coalition

The Coalition meets quarterly while the Steering Committee meets monthly. Apart from meetings, the Hamilton Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition leads initiatives like an annual conference and participates in larger community events like public speaking engagements and awareness presentations.

Priorities

The Hamilton Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition is committed to the prevention and elimination of all forms of Human Trafficking. Through anti-racist, anti-oppressive framework, the Coalition’s Steering Committee engages in initiatives directly linked to the prevention, education and support for trafficked persons.

The priorities of the Coalition’s Steering Committee include:

Prevention

The steering committee is committed to the prevention of Human Trafficking.  Through public education and awareness initiatives, the steering committee strives to enhance the communities understanding of human trafficking.  Through increased knowledge, our goal is to assist the community to better identify and support those at risk of and survivors of human trafficking.

Service Delivery & Coordination

The steering committee is committed to reducing barriers and systemic oppression to increase access and availability of services for those at risk or who have experienced trafficking.

History

The Hamilton Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition was established in 2009 and has been a leader in human trafficking training, with workshops and presentations being offered to community agencies, educational institutions as well as hosting an annual conference for more than 200 participants.

In 2018, we published The Guide for Supporting Trafficked Persons, a toolkit aimed at helping individuals and community organizations better understand, identify, and respond to human trafficking. You can find more information about this toolkit on our Resources page.
